Bio

Rebecka Sofia Ahvenniemi (Ph.D.) is a critical theorist with backgrounds in philosophy, music composition, and psychology.

Rebecka studied at the University of Bergen, the University of Helsinki, Freie Universität Berlin, and Columbia University. She completed her doctoral degree in philosophy in the fall of 2021. She has worked as a lecturer in academic writing and taught a variety of philosophical subjects at the University of Bergen. She has also taught composition at the Grieg Academy in Bergen and the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo.

Rebecka was a board member of the Arts Council Norway from 2020 to 2023. She was also a committee member of Turné og virksomhetsstøtte from 2016 to 2023, serving as its leader from 2018. In addition, she was a board member of the Norwegian Society of Composers from 2013 to 2018, and chair of the concert series Avgarde from 2019 to 2020.

In 2022, Rebecka was engaged as the house composer of KODE in Bergen. She was also the festival composer of the Kaustinen Chamber Music Festival in September 2022.

Today, Rebecka works with critical perspectives on society through philosophy, psychology, and music, as a writer and content creator.
